About Our Children's Self Defense Programs

We are very concerned with the well being and education of children. Most parents do everything they can to teach their children the needed skills to make it in the real world, but many parents need some help. After all, with our busy 21st Century schedules, it can be hard to find the time and resources to help them with these important life skills. You would think and expect that they would learn these important traits in school, but they really don’t.

In today’s schools bullying and violence are growing at an enormous rate. The following are some statistics that we are sure you will find alarming. After reading the following information you will then understand why millions of parents are using the martial arts to supplement their children’s education on how to deal with these situations and deter from them.

The following our some stats that are eye opening and quite frankly worrisome.

·        15% of students are either bullied regularly or are initiators of bullying behavior.
·        One in ten students is regularly harassed or attacked by bullies.
·        Boys engage in bullying behavior and are victims of bullying more frequently than girls; however the number of girls is rising.

·        Nearly one million students carried a gun to school during the 1997-98 school year, and nearly half of them were armed six or more times.
·        Every school day more than 150,000 students stay home because they, “are sick of violence and are afraid of being stabbed, shot or beaten.”
·        Every 92 minutes an American child is shot!
·        All communities, urban, suburban and rural have seen an increase in teen violence over the past five years.
·        Of the students who carried a gun to school: 59% were White; 18% Black; 12% Hispanic; 3% Asian and 3% Native American.
·        87% of teenagers said shootings are motivated by a desire to “get back at those who have hurt them.”

·        54% said witnessing physical abuse at home could lead to violence in school.
·        61% said they know students who could bring a gun to school if they wanted.
·        24% of students say they could, “easily get a gun if I wanted to.”

·        75% are concerned about a shooting taking place in their schools.

Whether it is teaching children how to protect themselves from physical harm, provide friendship, positive role models, or an activity to release energy
and stress; our instructors are there for them!

Our unique children programs use interesting and enjoyable methods to keep students attention and to teach students skills that they can use for a lifetime. We have developed three age specific children’s programs. When developing these programs we made sure to take into consideration the specific areas of development of the students. The techniques that are being taught are age appropriate. Younger students are unable to perform certain techniques due to the lack of motor skills and balance. Some techniques should not be taught to children or lower ranks because of their nature. Advanced student’s posses a better understanding of the martial arts, more self control and has proven him/herself to the instructors.

STUDENT CREED

I Promise to be a good student,

Put strength in my body,

Put knowledge in my mind,

Put honesty in my heart,

And to always use my self control!

The Student Creed is the cornerstone to the success of our children’s program.

The Academy’s belt promotion system is based on the principle of constant and never ending improvement towards Black Belt excellence. Self-confidence and improved self-esteem are developed through a series of wining experiences. Students can earn new belts, special colored stripes for their belt and patches for their uniform.

We call it the “Black Belt Success Cycle”

1)                 Know what you want
2)                 Have a plan, and a success coach
3)                 Take consistent action
4)                 Review your progress
5)                 Renew your goals

The belts represent short-term goals, stepping stones towards the achievement of the most sought after belt; the BLACK BELT. Through earning the ranks and setting new goals, they start to believe in themselves and it gives them an experience that they can look back and say, “If I can do that I can do anything I put my mind to!”

Teamwork is essential when raising and developing a child. That is why we have a mandatory form that must be completed by any student that is testing for a new rank. The Intent To Promote letter must be signed and dated by both the parents and the students teachers in order to be promoted to the next level. If the student is acting in a respectful manner at home and school and receiving passing grades then they will be promoted to the next level. Being a Black Belt is not just in the Dojo, it is everywhere that the student goes. It is a way of life.
