Pensacola

- Name: Doug Davis
-
- Birthday: January 1978
-
- A little about me:
- I was born in Cincinnati, Ohio
and lived there until 2007. My parents still live in Cincinnati
and my older sister lives in Oklahoma City. Growing up I loved
to play baseball with my friends and I was a tetherball expert
at recess. My grand parents lived down the street from me
growing up so I spent a lot of time with them. As a boy I worked
in the neighborhood cutting grass, shoveling snow or just doing
odd jobs to make enough money for some baseball cards or for a
new video game.
-
- An interesting fact is that I
have never had any broken bones (knocking on wood) after all the
years of martial arts and being a rough and rowdy boy. I did
have one major injury when I decided to chase a deer in the
woods with a couple of friends. 2 miles into the chase I ran
into a nasty thorn bush that decided to hit me in the eye. I
nearly lost my eye that day due to the large thorn that
punctured my eyeball and the fact that my father held me down on
the kitchen table as he went in after it with a pair of
tweezers! After many doctors visits, shots in-and-around the
eye, and a huge eye patch, I was just fine. Lesson learned -
NEVER CHASE WILD ANIMALS IN THE WOODS!
-
- Training:
- I started martial arts in 1992
and was my instructors first student to earn the rank of black
belt in 1995. The most memorable tournament experience was when
I was 16 years old and just 2 weeks away from testing for my
Black Belt. My instructor asked me to create my form/kata on the
spot during competition. Following his instructions I did what
he asked and I ended up doing so well that the judges had no
idea that I was creating it on the spot. I was awarded with 1st
place with a form that I could not redo if I had to! That day I
also went on to also win 1st place in weapons and 1st
place in overall mens fighting. That was a great day but I
learned just as much from the times that I lost in competition.
