Dojo Kun
What is Dojo Kun?
Literally Dojo
Rules or Code of Ethics. The Dojo Kun serves as the guiding
principles of Karate.
Why a Dojo
Kun?
The purpose of the Dojo Kun is to
remind all of the students in the dojo, regardless of their rank,
that the physical, mental, and spiritual growth that they have
gained as a result of their Karate training, must also extend beyond
the dojo's walls. In order to receive the true benefits of Karate,
each student must take the principals of the Dojo Kun and make them
a regular part of their daily life.
Just as movements
and techniques become second nature and automatic, the Dojo Kun
should also become natural and become part of the body, mind and
spirit of each Karate participant.
When and How
do we say the Dojo Kun?
The dojo kun is said
at the beginning and end of each class. The Dojo Kun should always
be said with strength and conviction and never mumbled with
insincerity.

Perfection of Character. It is stated that without respect there is
no dojo. Be tolerant of differences and considerate of the feelings
of others. Deal peacefully with anger, insults and disagreements.
Treat others with respect and use good manners.
5.
Refrain from violent behavior.
One must use self-control and keep your fighting spirit and emotions
in check. A person of character can walk away from a situation
because they are in control of their emotions and are at peace with
themselves. Force may be used in the end if it is morally correct
such as self-defense or protection of the innocent.
